Nice Try United!

I have a strong suspicion United Airlines tried to mess with my flight home with Air Canada yesterday. We were already checked into our flight online, but when we got to the airport to finish the check-in procedure and get our bags tagged the automated system told us our flight was either cancelled or delayed and to see and agent. A quick glance at the board showed AC1189 as cancelled. This would be exactly the sort of thing I'd expect from United, but haven't had these issues with Air Canada.

However, while waiting in line to see how we were supposed to get home with the last flight to Saskatoon cancelled we overheard an Air Canada employee telling another Saskatoon bound passenger that the flight wasn't cancelled, but had its number changed. The agent at the desk confirmed this and told us there was a maintenance issue with the plane and since they brought in a different plane they had to change the flight number, but the computer systems just saw it as a cancellation.

Who knew United would resort to sabotaging another airlines planes just to make me late to get home! And yes, I realize that seems hugely egotistical to think an airline is specifically out to screw me, but remember, they're out to screw you too.

On the bright side, after seemingly having issues with United every time we fly, we were well prepared to figure out another way home or even camp out in the airport overnight. Thanks for all the experience United!

  1. United and AC are both partners through Star Alliance, so there's the connection.
